Nikon in South Africa supports charities through unique social media initiative
Centurion, South Africa, 16 August 2011 - Nikon in South Africa today announced the launch of the “I AM YOUR GUIDE” charity drive in association with Lindt.
Seven prominent South African celebrities were invited to participate in decorating cakes with their loved ones at the Lindt Chocolate Studio in Design Quarter, Fourways, while capturing the event on the Nikon D3100 DSLR camera with HD video recording.
The Nikon D3100 features a unique Guide Mode that teaches the user how to capture better photos and record HD movies. The “I AM YOUR GUIDE” initiative is based on an advertisement from Nikon Europe featuring current spokesperson for the D3100 camera – internationally acclaimed chef Jamie Oliver.
The chosen celebrities had the opportunity to select a charity they wish to support. A video clip of the celebs were created and uploaded onto the Nikon in South Africa Facebook and Twitter sites, as well as those of the celebrities.
All charities supported through this initiative will receive an amount from Nikon in South Africa, based on the number of “likes” generated for their clip on the Nikon in South Africa social sites.
The celebrities and the charities they support are:
1. John Smit supporting Operation Bobby Bear
2. Ryk Neethling supporting the Jakaranda Children’s Home
3. Roxy Louw supporting the Red Cross Children’s Hospital
4. Craig Hinds supporting the Jo’Burg Child Welfare
